Learn to Surf in Byron Bay

by Raya on March 17, 2010

I’ve long desired to learn to surf and figured it was my time to leave the kids with husband and get out there & fulfill my surfing dreams. Getting given a brand spanking new surfboard for Christmas was an ideal incentive to get started. Then came a couple of months worth of wipeouts, falls and occasional squeals as I tried my hardest to conquer this sport that looks so much easier when watching someone who has done it since they were a kid. I came to the realisation that I needed professional help, I needed a surf lesson.

In steps Mojo Surf School, Byron Bay who took on the challenge of teaching us three Steph Gilmore wannabes to surf in our own private lesson. Unfortunately the conditions were pretty ordinary that day, so we headed to Lennox Head main beach and kitted up ready to take on the sloppy waves. Our surf instructor named Diva was awesome. We had a nine year old (Jordan – pictured) with us and Diva really gave her the attention that she needed and sent her away stoked about surfing and itching for more.

OOOPS

The Mojo Surf experience was a sensational one and I’d recommend them to any of you. Despite the ordinary conditions, Mojo Surf made the experience a fun and rewarding one for all of us. I’ve come away from that lesson with more confidence to start getting out more often and surfing better. Hey, maybe it’s my turn now to start heading out for the earlies and leave the kids at home with Brando for a change.
